Hi DCUM: I am looking to hear from parents who have recent experience with the Field Schoolhouse in DC. I'k thinking about applying for my upcoming 9th grader. Would similar feedback specifically most the loftier school and the college counseling process. What exercise/did you lot like best nigh the school? What practise/did y'all similar least about the school? What kind of students do you think thrive in that location? What kinds of students would not practice well there? I realize these are generalities only would like to hear about your personal experiences.
Many thanks.

For all information technology's failings (and there are many) Field school gets kids into great colleges for the about part. I was really surprised at the caliber of schoolhouse many of the kids in my DDs grade from a few years ago went on to attend. Especially considering the lack of intensity of the HS curriculum. Kudos to the counselors

I take 3 friends with kids in this class and they're all very pleased with the school. ii/3 work in pedagogy themselves and then they're discerning customers. It's apparently a very nice grade (rising 9th) of kids.

I have two DCs at Field. They both started there in high school and honey it. My Distance learning has been good likewise.

My child is in eighth course, then no experience with the high schoolhouse, but we've been generally pleased with the center school. And the group of kids is exceptionally kind and inclusive. The new HOS has made several changes that I recollect are cracking (learning specialist, full time advisor).

They don't offer remediation, so if that's what you're looking for, y'all won't get information technology. But my child uses learning ally for everything (last year, the schoolhouse provided a subscription to everyone when we moved to distance learning) and other accommodations, like audio files and using phonation to text has never been problem. There are several students in my child'due south class who have dyslexia.

My girl graduated from Field in the Spring. She attended ix-12. We were very happy there. It was the right school for her. The higher counselors were amazing. She was accustomed at vi of seven schools she applied to and received bookish scholarships at 4. Although her college is remote this semester, she is doing well academically. Field taught my shy student to self abet. She'due south meeting with her professors regularly. Needless to say I am happy with the overall result. Every school has positives and negatives. My goal was to have a school assistance my girl become the best version of herself. This was certainly achieved even during the pandemic.

Thank you for this thread, OP and for those who responded.
PP 10:34 (or others), I'yard interested in this annotation virtually educator parents liking the school. I'thousand an educator, too, and we've looked into Field. I like the progressive vibe. But it as well seems a petty loose and disorganized, with young teachers who may non have figured the remainder out yet between didactics with openness and pushing kids enough to go to that adjacent level of critical thinking and writing that I'd promise would come from HS. We're not looking for a pressure level cooker school by any ways, but our kiddo needs a picayune bit of a push to help her get into the groove of a drive forrad (she'south smart simply non an academic go-getter).
What practise those of you who are parents remember about that residue between "exist who you are" and "here are opportunities we see that are within your grasp if you push a lilliputian harder"?

I found the vibe at Burke like but much more organized.

A few children from my daughter's Montessori School went there + actually liked it. They got into good colleges

It'southward funny how the parents with actual feel with the school like it but those with no actual experience honey to criticize it because information technology's not "practiced" or "rigorous" enough.
